Tagging Instructions

We hope everyone will be willing to try out the NEW Registration and Tagging System!  Though different than what we've done in the past, you'll find it to be an easier and faster way to create your tags.  It also offers additional benefits to our consignors that cannot be achieved through hand-writing tags.

We do realize there may be some who have circumstances that prevent you from using the system or some who may have started hand-writing tags already in preparation for this sale.  We don't want to leave you out, and we will still accept hand-written tags!  We have taken the instructions for making handwritten tags off of our website for now to avoid confusion with the new system, but here's what you should do:

If you need to create handwritten tags, please email kidsswapinfo@gmail.com.  Please include your name, address, and phone number.  Or just call Shelly 256.221.2397 or Danita 256.738.5638.  We will send the complete tagging instructions (same as past events) in a pdf document by email as well as a consignor number.

Create your tags in our NEW Registration and Tagging System!  Here are the IMPORTANT things to remember about creating tags.

  1. You must register by midnight on Saturday, March 3rd.  The system will not let you register after this time.
  2. When you click on the registration link on the Consignor Information page, you will be given basic instructions to complete your registration.
  3. Use 60-67# cardstock paper to print your tags.  It must be white or pastel colored--no dark colors, no multi-colored or patterned cardstock.  Tags made with copy paper will not be accepted because they tear too easily.
  4. Use an inkjet printer (no dot matrix) with a Normal (not best quality) printout.  Faded barcodes and tags that are too dark may not work; must appear crisp and clear.
  5. Do not place tape over barcodes.
  6. Each item must have a unique tag printed from your account.  Do not make copies of tags.  You will be able to print multiples of the same tag from your account if you have multiples (i.e., 10 Pink Hairbows all priced at $4.00), and each tag will have a unique barcode that will tell your account exactly which item sold, give you proper credit, and mark it as sold. Copies will not give you credit for the sale in your account.  Each barcode is unique, SO you DO NOT want 10 copy machine hairbow tags.
  7. If you have used MyCM (My Consignment Manager) at another sale and want to transfer items to our sale, there are a few things we will need to help you check before you print your tags.  Please contact us for assistance.

Pins:

Use medium to large safety pins ONLY!  No small gold or black pins, no small silver pins or straight pins!  They WILL FALL OFF!  Attach your medium to large safety pin horizontally ABOVE the cutting line on your tags.

Hangers:

Use wire hangers only!  (Adult size or child size)  Plastic hangers tend to break, and safety pins do not pin items securely to thick plastic hangers.  The pins tend to bend with the width of the plastic hangers, and items end up in the floor.

Hang items with the hanger facing to the left, and pin the tag on the right side of the garment while the item is facing you.  Clothing sets should be pinned together on one hanger with the pants or skirt pinned to the outside so both pieces may be viewed easily.  Pin pants or skirt to the top side of the hanger rather than the bottom so they won’t slide to the side.  Please do not hang multiple grouped items on one hanger that do not belong together as part of a single outfit (i.e. Do not put 3 onesies on the same hanger).  Each item should stand alone as an item that can be valued at $3.00.  See the Tagging Illustrations on this page.

We do not accept clothing in zip lock bags.

Your items will sell more quickly if they are easy to view.  You may even hang blankets, bibs, etc. on hangers.

Price:

You set your price.  Price to sell!  In order to maintain high quality and make the most of our space, all items must have a minimum price of $3.00.  If you don’t feel your item is worth $3.00, other people won’t either.  They are shopping for quality items just as you are.  Save items that cannot be valued for at least $3.00 for yard sales or good will donations.

Again, price to sell!  Please don’t overprice.
For clothing, we suggest no more than 1/3 of the original retail price, depending on name brand and condition.  Big ticket items will tend to hold more value.  Consider this: Other consignors will bring in items of same or similar brand and condition.  When a shopper compares and makes a choice between same or similar items, it almost always comes down to price!

Please price your items in full dollar increments—NO CENTS and without the "$"!  (For example: 5, 7, 10 would be correct, NOT $3.50 or 4.99)
.  If you don’t want your items to be discounted on our 25% off and 50% off Discount Days, put “ND” in the lower right corner of your tag above the price.

Shoes:

Limit of 6 pair of shoes in excellent condition!  Please do not put shoes in Ziploc bags.  Use ribbon, twine, or a zip tie to keep shoes together and then pin 3x5 card to the tie.  It is also a good idea to put a piece of masking tape on the bottom or inside of each shoe with your consignor number and price in case the shoes are separated or lose their tag.  See Tagging Illustrations on this page.

Toys and
Other Items:

Use clear packaging tape to attach cards to toys and other items.  Do not use scotch tape or masking tape!  It will not hold!  Tape the top 1/3 of the card (at the cut line) directly to the toy or on the OUTSIDE of the Ziploc bag if grouping small items in a bag.  Tape the tops of Ziploc bags closed so items do not fall out of the bags.  If grouping books in a bag, include the book titles on your item description on your card.  If toys come with small pieces, make sure all pieces are present and place them in a ziploc bag attached to the toy so they don't become lost.

Sort Items:

Sort items by sex and size before bringing them to Drop-Off.  This will make it much easier for you to hang your items on the appropriate racks.

Image #2:  Correctly Pinned Pants and Incorrectly Pinned Pants
The pants on the left are hung correctly by placing the pins on the top portion of the hanger.  The pants on the right are pinned incorrectly on the bottom of the hanger and slide easily out of place.  Your items will sell better if they are easy to view!

Image #3:  Correctly Prepared Shoes
Simply tie the shoes together with ribbon, twine, or a zip tie and pin your tag to it.  As an extra precaution, use a piece of masking tape on the insides or soles of shoes with your consignor # and price (in addition to the price tag).  No Ziploc bags for shoes, please!

Safety pin is placed horizontally so the tag won't tear, and all information is added in the correct position on the card.
